Executive Summary of Competencies

This portfolio contains artifacts from my coursework as an ISLT-MS student, as a Student Intern at the Federal Aviation Administration, and as a Travel Trainer during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is organized by type of artifact – the Education & Experience tab holds my resume, program of study, and professional references, while the Artifacts tab holds various types of projects I have completed in professional contexts and in my studies, such as instructional modules and courses, various types of instructional media, artifacts relating to Human Performance Technologies, and more.

Throughout my time with FSU I have demonstrated my effectiveness in communication by participating in active listening during interview sessions while conducting a job/task analysis and a research study. I have provided clear oral instruction and directions for activities in VoiceThread presentation recordings, artifact recordings, and podcasts. I have demonstrated my ability to deliver engaging in-person presentations via instructor-led trainings (ILT) at my job and in a virtual instructor-led training (VILT) conducted over Zoom.

I have conducted extensive analyses on various projects such as determining prerequisite and subordinate skills in a task analysis for an instructional module, a job/task analysis for a Chemical Engineering Manager at Flex Foam, and a micro-level needs assessment for The Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) of Northeast Florida.

I’ve learned about instructional design theories and models and modified and combined aspects from several to describe and guide my own design process (a combination of Dick & Carey, ARCS, Gagne’s 9 Events, and software design principles). I’ve learned game design and gamification theories, and designed one full Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) course. I’ve utilized multimedia design principles to create infographics, job aids, and presentations.

I’ve become well-versed in synchronous and asynchronous technologies and design featuring ILT and VILT. I’ve created a variety of instructional media such as a tutorial in Adobe Captivate, instructional videos, websites on Google Sites, podcasts, and visual aids. I am aware of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and knowledgeable in accessible design techniques for individuals with special needs.

I’ve collaborated with classmates and colleagues for a good number of group projects, such as the Gamification Canvas course, instructional videos, and a research study on classroom-based interventions for teaching travel skills to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). In the course EME 5250 Open Learning and Open Educational Resources (OER), I learned about copyright infringement, how to avoid it by using OER, and how to create OER for others to use. I’ve learned about advancements in the field such as gamification and artificial intelligence, and how to keep current with new technologies.

I’ve obtained evaluation and research skills by becoming knowledgeable on evaluation methods such as formative assessments, summative assessments, and Kirkpatrick’s Model of Evaluation. I’ve learned how to construct valid and reliable evaluation tools, as demonstrated in my various assessments and the survey and interview created for the research study on travel skills for individuals with ASD.

I have demonstrated management skills by taking Team Lead roles in my previous job as a Youth Services Lead Coordinator, and in group projects such as the EME 5250 OER Audio/Visual Team and the EDF 5442 research study on travel skills for individuals with ASD.

You will find that many of my projects have a public transportation theme; as a subject matter expert (SME) in this topic, following this theme allowed me to focus on the skills I needed to learn rather than become an SME in many fields while earning my degree. The works in this portfolio are meant to reflect the skills and methodologies I learned at FSU, which can be applied to various topics and fields, not just public transportation. Please enjoy my portfolio demonstrating my expertise in these competencies.
